PRAYER FOR THE SYNOD

This October a Synod meeting will be held in Rome for the worldwide church.  Each country and region around the world has been preparing for it over the last year with local meetings that submitted ideas and information to Rome for consideration.  All churches have been asked to pray for the success of the Synod meeting this May.  Specifically, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary – May 31 – was proposed as an ideal day to pray as the Synod is placed under her protection.  Bishop McKnight, however, has asked our parishes in this Diocese to pray on Pentecost the enclosed prayer seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance for the 16th Ordinary General Assembly being held from Oct. 4-29, 2023.  You are welcome to pray this prayer privately, if you wish, over the coming months.

Prayer for the Synod

We stand before You, Holy Spirit,

             As we gather together in Your name.

With You alone to guide us,

             Make Yourself at home in our hearts;

Teach us the way we must go

             And how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful,

             Do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path

Nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity

So that we may journey together to eternal life

And not stray from the way of truth and what is right.

All this we ask of You,

Who are at work in every place and time,

In the communion of the Father and the Son,

Forever and ever. Amen.
