CATHEDRAL REDEDICATION
On May 5th, the Cathedral for the Diocese of Jefferson City will be rededicated after being closed down for a year of renovation work. SIRCAL Construction has overseen work to add more decoration and symbolism in the church and improvements to the lower level hall. Pope Francis’ ambassador to the United States, Archbishop Christophe Pierre will be the one presiding over the rededication Mass with Bishop McKnight preaching the homily. A cathedral is the principal church for any diocese as it holds the bishop’s seat of authority known as a “cathedra.” It serves as the mother church for the diocesan community that occasionally gathers the priests of the diocese and the faithful with their bishop for official ceremonies during the year. For the last year, those ceremonies have had to be held in other locations, so we welcome the return to active service of our Cathedral of St Joseph. (Mass on May 5th is by invitation only)
